DENTAL FILLINGS
What is a Dental Filling?
A dental filling is a type of restoration that is meant to replace decay found in one or more of your teeth. Dental fillings are made out of composite resin, so they look and feel like your natural teeth. If you have a cavity, the decay will first be removed and the filling put into its place. You can think of a filling as a way to restrengthen the tooth and prevent the decay from spreading.
Why might you need a Dental Filling?
The most common reason for needing a dental filling is because there is decay present in one or more of your natural teeth. If left untreated, decay can continue to infiltrate the tooth, and it may require the need for a full root canal. When a cavity is found, it is important to have the decay removed and a filling placed to prevent the entire tooth from being compromised. Depending on the amount of decay, the filling may be large in size or barely noticeable.

What makes you a candidate for a Dental Filling?
To determine if you need a filling, you’ll need to come in for a dental examination. With the use of a visual exam as well as x-rays, we can determine if decay is present and the best type of filling to use for the tooth. The filling procedure is done quickly and comfortably in our office. Our staff is committed to making your appointment with us for your filling warm and welcoming.
What can you expect during the Dental Filling procedure?
The area that will be receiving the filling will receive a local anesthetic. This will numb the area and make it more comfortable for you during the visit. The tooth is then drilled into to remove the decay. The hole that was created will be prepped for the filling material. The resin is poured into the hole and contoured to have a smooth finish. The material is then cured using a blue curing light. Your new filling can last for years with optimal hygiene and care.
